A8. Cooperation with foreign countries

Cooperation with foreign partners is a key pillar of the development of professional, scientific and application capacities in the field of cyber and information security. Activities are aimed at linking expertise between the Slovak Republic and EU/EFTA countries in order to reflect current challenges of the digital environment and support a harmonized approach to addressing cybersecurity and cyber resilience issues.

The project systematically helps develop partnerships with relevant international academic institutions and associations, with emphasis on:

  • exchange of professional knowledge and experience in the field of cyber and information security,
  • joint research and publication of scientific outputs,
  • participation in international projects and initiatives,
  • linking technical and legal aspects of cybersecurity.

Round table – University of Malaga, Španielsko –  21.1.-23.1.2026

The working trip program consisted of three professional meetings that combined presentations of research results and discussions, with a significant part of the program being the implementation of a Roundtable on Cybersecurity with foreign partners at the University of Malaga, Španielsko, on Thursday, January 22.

The working trip to Malaga was carried out as part of the development of international cooperation between Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and foreign academic institutions. Its main goal was to establish and deepen professional contacts with the University of Malaga, exchange experiences in the field of applied mathematics, cybersecurity and data analysis, and identify common research topics with the potential for long-term cooperation.

21.1.2026 (Wednesday) – Introductory working meetin

The meeting was focused on a general discussion on the possibilities of cooperation in joint research activities. The intersections of research topics of both departments, the possibilities of involvement in international projects and the frameworks of long-term cooperation were discussed.

22.1.2026 (Thursday) – Main expert meeting and round table

The main meeting took the form of presentations and expert discussion between teams from both universities. The following topics were presented:

  • Cybersecurity Competence Center (KCKB) – the activities of KCKB at UPJŠ, its main activities (research, education, expertise, cooperation) and the role of CSIRT-UPJŠ as a key part of the center.
  • Formal concept analysis in cybersecurity – an overview of research focused on the use of formal concept analysis in the analysis of digital evidence, system logs and IDS alerts. The main topics discussed were the identification of relationships between attributes of digital evidence and the detection of anomalies or suspicious behavior patterns.
  • Rice-Siff algorithm - as an approximation approach to the construction of concept structures. Issues of compromise between computational efficiency and the quality of the resulting information were discussed.

23.1.2026 (Friday) - Professional meeting on graph methods

The last meeting focused on the use of graph methods and algorithms in the field of cybersecurity and digital forensic analysis. Basic graph models for representing system artifacts and their relationships, selected graph metrics, algorithms for shortest paths and flows in networks, as well as attack graphs were discussed. Special attention was paid to the applications of graph approaches in forensic data analysis and the identification of attack scenarios and anomalies.

The work trip confirmed the great professional overlap between the research topics of UPJŠ and the University of Málaga. The discussions created a solid foundation for further scientific and research cooperation in the areas of formal concept analysis, graph methods and cybersecurity.

Participants from UPJŠ:

  • Doc. RNDr. Ondrej Krídlo, PhD. – PF UPJŠ,
  • RNDr. Rastislav Krivoš-Belluš, PhD. PF UPJŠ,
